Do you have a specific time when your work life stops and your private life begins each day? Each weekend? For vacations? When you leave work, do problems, projects, calls, appointments, and meetings follow you home and erode your private time? Do you have withdrawal symptoms when not working, such as restlessness, anxiety, depression, or psychosomatic symptoms? Has anyone close to you ever accused you of being a workaholic? Have you become creative in rationalizing your excesses, perhaps by convincing yourself that success demands a dedication bordering on obsession? Do you fear failure if you do anything less? Can you not seem to stop replaying conversations at work, reassessing decisions, and reexamining work details? Is what you do who you are? Is your identity as a person so closely linked to your work identity that it is difficult to enjoy an activity not connected with work? Do you take setbacks, feedback, or criticism of work projects personally? Are you still trying to prove your worth to yourself, or someone else, by what you do? Do you believe that only unending effort will demonstrate your true value? Are you doing what you do for someone elses response, or for your own benefit and satisfaction of your own ideals? Is work an escape? Does it allow you to fill a void or get out of doing something you regard as unpleasant, such as meeting family obligations or facing family conflicts? Do you have medical problems as a result of overwork, or a physical deterioration from alcohol, cigarettes, skimping on sleep, or overeating? Has your social or family function deteriorated as a result of excessive work, including neglect of children or spouse?SOME REMEDIES FOR WORK ADDICTION Establish a clear boundary between your work life and your private life: each day, each weekend, and for designated vacation periods. If you feel guilty or vaguely uncomfortable with taking time off or relaxing, consider reframing the time, even the play, as a necessary component of your work. In order to be maximally effective when you are at work, making time for a private life and for play is crucial. Even though you may enjoy and feel rewarded by your work, play is equally important. Creativity, nurturing in itself, needs time to ferment, develop, and expand. You may even find it useful to set aside a brief time at the end of each day to allow closure of work activity, to have an official transition time that puts a p

Identify and Remedy Work Addiction

People with work addiction have to work constantly, even on weekends, and during whatever vacations they permit themselves. For these individuals, however, the relentless pursuit of work and the attainment of material gain do not result in pleasure.Like other addictions, work addiction affects the workaholics social life and restricts his or her personal freedom and happiness. In fact, excessive work can be a means to withdraw from relationships, to manipulate relationships by limiting ones availability, or to regulate relationships so that not too much is expected.Individuals who are truly addicted to work do not find great pleasure in the work itself. Work, motivated by a desire to be effective, to experience mastery, and also avoids feeling bad. Like other compulsions work addiction is an attempt to regulate ones feelings and self-esteem.WORK ADDICTION: SELF-EVALUATION QUESTIONSChange begins by looking at things in a different way. Consider the following questions in relation to your work and your feelings about your work identity. Do you have a specific time when your work life stops and your private life begins each day? Each weekend? For vacations? When you leave work, do problems, projects, calls, appointments, and meetings follow you home and erode your private time? Do you have withdrawal symptoms when not working, such as restlessness, anxiety, depression, or psy

How to Remove the Psychological Addiction to Smoking - and Start to ENJOY Giving Up Smoking!

But then, of course you remember you no longer smoke.Bang! At that moment, certain gut feelings will arise.Feelings of regret........a feeling that you are missing out on something important and then maybe..... terrible feelings of emptiness..... We all know how it feels. But the real question is: How will you deal with this feeling -- this craving to smoke? Will you just suffer it, try to repress it and hope that it will go away? That is one option. The old willpower method.Or will you give in to the feeling -- and start to smoke again (promising to start again tomorrow)?Or will you - - for the first time ever: - - follow our instructions and actually ALLOW yourself to transform the feeling/craving so that it is actually enjoyable or at least pleasant or tolerable enough to experience. You see, when you can do that, you will no longer be AFRAID of these cravings when you stop smoking. In fact, you will start to WELCOME them because they will give you another opportunity to RESPOND and DEAL with them in this NEW WAY.This process is the essence of giving up smoking naturally and finding it a pleasant and life-affirming experience.Weight-loss?Are you now beginning to see how these principles can also apply to losing weight. You see a beautiful cake. You want to eat it....when BANG! -- You remember you are on a diet. Now watch HOW YOU feel when this happens?Couldn't we describe it as ....'Feelings of regret........a feeling that you are missing out on something important and then maybe..... terrible feelings of emptiness.....Isn't it essentially the same feeling as not being able to smoke? However, the real question is the same with smoking: How will you DEAL with this feeling -- this craving to eat? Will you GIVE IN to it -- and eat the cake or will you try and FORCE yourself not to eat it- and be miserable? Why not consider our alternative?Accept this feeling, this desire to eat. But, instead of giving in to it, learn how to deal and respond to it in a NEW way so that you don't MIND experiencing it?Transform the craving so that it is actually enjoyable or very pleasant to experience. The Joy of Giving up Smoking?Remember, when you stop - yes, you WILL feel something but there will be no physical agony, only a temporary feeling that you are MISSING OUT on something. A feeling that you are being deprived of something SPECIAL --- but these feelings will ONLY be temporary. However, to quit smoking successfully and to start to enjoy doing it we must go deeper than these temporary cravings. We must realize that :You find it difficult or impossible to stop smoking now because......... you BELIEVE ABSOLUTELY that you NEED to smoke and even deeper, you BELIEVE that if you give up smoking now, your life will never be as ENJOYABLE again. In one sentence: You believe your life will be intolerable. It is these beliefs that makes giving up smoking difficult NOT Nicotine addiction.Right now, you are not only physically addicted to smoking but you are psychologically dependent or addicted to smoking. If your addiction were purely physical wouldn't all these nicotine patches have a 100% success record ?Yet, we all know that even if we use a nicotine substitute, we will still continue to feel a terrible desire to smoke.Again and again, we'll feel we must have a cigarette. At times, it will even get to the stage where we just don't care - even the most dire health warnings will have no affect on us - we just WANT to smoke. Where does this desire come from ?It comes from our conditioning, our beliefs about smoking. This moment, we believe that smoking is an essential pleasure. In fact, most of us have a terrible resistance to EVEN thinking about giving up smoking. Why ?Because we believe that in order to do anything about our addiction, i.e. give up smoking -- we would have to end our pleasure and ending pleasure is something we have NO DESIRE to do.YOUR REAL JOBYour real job in giving up smoking lies in REALLY UNDERSTANDING that you don't NEED to smoke. You remove the psychological addiction to smoking. You will never be truly free until you realize that smoking is not a real pleasure and that when you stop, you WILL NOT BE depriving ourselves of a real pleasure....... ......and then you will not only be able to give up smoking for good but you will enjoy doing it!Is it possible to enjoy, yes ENJOY quitting smoking - and not gain ANY weight? How to Change Your Conditioned Responses to Certain Foods

If there are many items you choose more than three, four, times each week, pick one at a time and practice not having it one day a week before moving on to the next item. For example, Sunday could be a No-Coffee Day, Wednesday a No-Bread Day, and so on.No MultiplesAnother technique to aim for is No Multiples no second cup of coffee, no second drink, not another piece of bread after the first, and no second or third helpings, even if it is Thanksgiving. Remember, in a restaurant, youd never say to the waiter: Maurice, is there another chicken leg in the kitchen.Skip-A-DayAs you lose weight and become smaller, your food requirements will be smaller, too. The next level would be to Skip-A-Day. If you had one category of food yesterday, dont have it today. And if you have it today, dont have it tomorrow. Skipping days will force you to seek more variety and ultimately lessen the hold some items have on you. Choosing any item three or four times a week works out well for most people, but for good health, red meat (beef) or cheese should be your choice no more than once a week.If you are sensitive to refined flour most often found in bread and pasta, choosing it once every third or fourth day might work best. Choosing a baked potato, corn, or a yam every other day in lieu of pasta might be a better choice still. Some days having a dark vegetable instead of another salad may be exactly what is needed and will help you achieve the Skip-A-Day suggestion. If you select the same category of food every day, youre eating it 365 days a year, and at the end of the year youll have eaten loaves of bread, vats of coffee, pounds of chocolate, gallons of soda, troughs of salad. By choosing these items every other day, youre only having them 182 times a year. That shows up as a noticeable loss of weight and inches. Choose an item every third or fourth day and the results will be obvious that much sooner. Choosing the same foods all the time cheats you out of valuable nutrients youd find in a wider variety of food.ScatterShake it all up. If you have coffee at breakfast one morning, select it for lunch or dinner the next time, or not at all. This reduces your reliance on coffee to get you up in the morning. By Skipping and Scattering, youll get in the mind set of sometimes I have it, and sometimes I dont. This helps prove that the opposite of I love this food, is not hate, but rather indifference.* * * * *When I drank alcohol regularly and frequented a restaurant near my apartment, the bartender actually knew my usual drink. I was embarrassed to know that someone was watching what I was eating and drinking, that my compulsive, ritual, behavior was noticed by someone else. More embarrassing was that the cashier in a local health and beauty aids shop knew my usual choice of candy.I remember deciding to have a no-dessert (candy for me) day, and as I stood at the checkout counter, the cashier reached down to my favorite candy. He put the foil-wrapped bar on the counter, and said: You forgot your candy. I was so embarrassed that I meekly paid for it along with my other purchases and left the store. Charting these foods might show this type of behavior but it might also show that youre not having enough salads, starches, or dark vegetables, and those items might need to be increased.Yes, I ate the candy, but the next time theres always a next time I had repatterned enough that I was able to leave the store sans unplanned food. I kept reminding myself (mental repatterning): Im not hungry, I only eat when Im hungry, and besides, I want to w

How to Change Your Conditioned Responses to Certain Foods

Then, after the next seven-day period, do it again. Making a list of foods such as bread, salad, starch, dessert, beverage, and alcohol is a good idea. You can compare each week with the previous to see if you are achieving some of your goals.Addiction ModelYoure not only trying to lose weight and to feed the smaller person you are becoming, you are also trying to reverse the progression of the addiction model here. In a progressive addiction, the portion-size and frequency of usage keep escalating each time you build a tolerance for a particular food. The amount you need increases and the usage becomes more frequent. As you begin to lose weight, the portion-size of food and frequency-of-usage diminish in size, and number of hits.Diminish Number of Times Each DayThe most frequently chosen items are bread, beverage, dessert, and alcohol. Some items may tally anywhere from zero to 15 and even 20, each week, or, anywhere from one to

How To Break The Addiction To Anger

Functions of AddictionsWhen we are addicted, all we can think about is our addiction, about getting another "hit". Our focus and attention narrows, many aspects of life are blocked out. This itself is soothing to many. As focus narrows it numbs us and blocks out painful feelings and experiences that we may not wish to deal with. At this point the addiction is serving as a defense against pain and anxiety. It is preventing us from seeing and dealing with issues, which need to be attended to. While this presents temporary relief, the situation behind the addiction, the fuel which feeds it, festers and intensifies.Addictions also provide a sense of pleasure, power, of being high, mighty and invincible. (A defense against the feelings of helplessness and inadequacy many feel). Despite the fact that these good feelings the addiction produces are temporary, the craving for them can become so intense that the person becomes blind to consequences of their addiction. They also become blind to the fact that as the addiction develops, the dosage increases - they inevitably require more and more of it to feel okay. Not only does the dosage increase, but so does the negative impact upon their lives. Many become slaves to their addiction. Little by little it takes everything away.Addiction provides a false sense of security. All the while an addiction is running, it makes the individual feel safe and secure. The reality, however, is those addictions destroy an individuals true safety. It blinds them from doing what needs to be

If you're not having fun and are popping antacids to avoid a stress-related ulcer, then you need to rethink all that hard work you're putting in. Fun must be a high priority in your life and your job should be no exception.Gary's Story In one of our coaching sessions, Gary told me he wanted to expand his social circle yet didn't have time because he worked from 7.30 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. most days. He said he'd been doing this for years and that it was 'the norm' in his profession. As I continued to question him about why it was standard procedure to work these ridiculous hours, he realised that those colleagues who succumbed to this belief were all very unhappy individuals. Most of them were divorced just like he was and had no-one to go home to. They used work as a way to avoid the loneliness.Gary was divorced because he didn't pay attention to his relationships. When he was married he would arrive home at 7.30 p.m. most nights and his wife wouldn't bother communicating with him. She was busy looking after their two young boys and meeting their needs. At that time of night his wife was putting the kids to bed.Gary would read them a story if they hadn't already fallen asleep. He was missing out on everything that was important to him.Unfortunately Gary didn't wake up to himself in time and got caught up with being 'Mr. Important' at work. He paid a heavy price with the divorce which followed.Bringing Up Kids In his book "Raising Boys", Stephen Biddulph categorically states: If you routinely work a fifty five or sixty hour week, including travel times, you just won't cut it as a dad.He says: Your sons will have problems in life and it will be down to you.The Final Word If you seriously want to make changes to your

He paid a heavy price with the divorce which followed.Bringing Up Kids In his book "Raising Boys", Stephen Biddulph categorically states: If you routinely work a fifty five or sixty hour week, including travel times, you just won't cut it as a dad.He says: Your sons will have problems in life and it will be down to you.The Final Word If you seriously want to make changes to your life, then take action now. If it's too hard to do by yourself, get coached. If you've been a workaholic it can take awhile to break your old habits and to instill new behaviours. After all you've got everything to gain by working less and everything to lose by continuing the way you are.Have a great week Lorraine PirihiKeywords: Do you work more than 50 hours a week?About the Author

Healing Food Addiction

When I asked her to do this, she immediately imagined her grandfather whom she had dearly loved as a child and who had died when she was five. She said she had often felt her grandfather around her, but had never thought to turn to him for help. Now, as she imagined him holding her and loving her, she began to cry with the joy of feeling his love for her.Hannah, while he is holding you, imagine the child part of you that wants to overeat. Imagine that you are holding her while your grandfather is holding you. Ask her how you are treating her that causes her to feel so empty and alone.Little Hannah: The thing you ALWAYS do that I just hate is you just go along with everything that Roger wants. What he wants and needs and feels is always more important to you than I am. You dont speak up for me. Every since we got married, its like Roger is supposed to make me happy instead of you making me happy. I need you to make me happy by taking care of me instead of taking care of Roger so that Roger will love us. I need you to love me. (This did not come out all at once - this is a summary of what the Inner Child eventually said to adult Hannah). As Hannah learned to turn to her grandfather for love and guidance and started to take care of herself instead of giving herself up to Roger, her binge eating gradually diminished.About The AuthorMargaret Paul, Ph.D. is the best-selling author and co-author of eight books, including "Do I Have To Give Up Me To Be Loved By You?" Healing Food Addiction

But I dont get why I feel this way. Im not alone. I have Roger and he loves me.It sounds like you want to eat when you feel alone inside, when your Inner Child - which is your feeling self - feels alone and abandoned inside.Yes, answered Hannah. Thats exactly what I feel, but I have no idea how to fill that emptiness and aloneness without food. And why do I feel alone inside when Im not alone outside? The problem is that most people think that the empty alone feeling is caused by something outside themselves - such as not having a partner, feeling rejected by someone, being unhappy at a job or not having enough money. Yet that is never what causes inner emptiness and inner aloneness. It is caused by one thing - not taking loving care of yourself, of your feelings, of the child within. And we cannot take loving care of ourselves without having a spiritual source to turn to for love, wisdom, guidance and strength.A spiritual source can be God, a Higher Power, a guardian angel, an inner mentor or teacher, a beloved relative who has died, or your own Higher Self. We all need a source of guidance to turn to other than other people or our own mind. Our mind is limited to our storehouse of beliefs, many of which are false or no longer supportive of who are now are. Our mind cannot guide us in what is

Gambling Addiction Is Silent And Self Destructive

Its important to find a stop gambling recovery program that they can relate to. Next they need to realize that they can lead a normal productive life once they stop. Compulsive gamblers have spent a significant amount of mental energy thinking about when they were going to gamble again, the next big win and how did I lose all that money. AS they recover they realize they wasted so much of their time with a negative end result. Once they stopped gambling they became productive individuals. They also became part of society again. All those self destructive behaviors were now behind them. Many of them look back and remember with amazement and shock. They could not believe what they had done to their lives. The key was to finding the right combination that helped them stop their addiction. There are quite a few stop gambling resources that are available that can help the compulsive gambler. Through all of these new resources family members, friends and the compulsive gamblers can educate themselves in order to have a brighter tomorrow.Mr. Howard Keith has an extensive background in dealing with compulsive gamblers, relatives and friends of gamblers and teenage gamblers. Mr. Keith believes there are many alternatives to aid in the recovery of a gambling addiction verses a twelve step program. A large percentage of his emails were from compulsive gamblers looking for an alternative to Gamblers Anonymous and twelve step programs. Gamblers Anonymous also helps a significant number of people each year but there is a large percentage that they are unable to reach. Gambling Addiction Is Silent And Self Destructive

Its now time to find a solution in order to stop their addiction.Over the past year, I have met a lot of people who have been able to face their demons in order to stop their gambling addiction. They range in age from seventeen to seventy two and are from all walks of life. All of these compulsive gamblers expected that they would gamble for the rest of their life. They never really thought they could beat their addiction. The one thing in common was they all had a sincere desire to stop but were unable to. They all tried various programs but nothing seemed to work. Some of these people tried Gamblers Anonymous. A majority quit this program, but felt they had gained knowledge and a better understanding of their gambling addiction. Gamblers Anonymous helped them to realiz

Four Stages of Breaking an Addiction

I dont want to do this, but Ill pick one no-coffee day. I dont want to weigh myself twice a day. I dont want to write down everything I eat. I dont want to eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast. I dont want to eat breakfast, but I will because I want to weigh ________ pounds.Stage Three Surprise, I enjoyed itI tried hot cereal at breakfast and I enjoyed it. I tasted the most wonderful soup for lunch one day. I didnt think Id like it, but I did. I had a cup of hot water instead of tea one night and it was actually very nice.Stage Four The new way becomes the comfortable and preferred wayIts important to know, however, that the attachment you seem to feel for certain foods is not predicated on how much you love that particular food. Rather, it indicates how very addicted you are to numbing yourself with that food. Thinking about the food, getting the food, eating the food in a certain way, has become an integral part of your self-medicating ritual. The thought of not acting out (not getting your drug) causes you great anxiety. You eat the item (bread, beverage, candy, popcorn, etc.) to relieve the discomfort caused by not eating the item. Consider not drinking coffee and getting a headache and then drinking a cup of coffee to relieve the discomfort caused by not drinking the coffee. Its like a puppy chasing its tail.Knowing there are four stages to breaking an addiction will help you be pro-active in traveling through stages two and three and shifting from resistance to change all the way to knowing the new way is the comfortable, preferred way. This information will break you of the food rituals you use to help quell your anger, anxiety, or other uncomfortable feelings or thoughts. Then you can deal with the feelings more directly, more appropriately.

Four Stages of Breaking an Addiction

Whether it is a basket of bread, a huge salad, or a box of cookies, your body takes so much extra time to slog through the extra food more food than youre able to burn that it cannot easily process it. The body wears itself out. You get tired.Calories are units of energy. After eating your meal you want to feel energized, not tired.Eating more than you need causes you to feel as if you are in a drugged state. This altered state, zones out the brain, and helps you to escape from feelings.Stage One Resistance to changeMy Program comes along and says: Lets not have a beverage at every breakfast. Sometimes, choose to have a beverage every two, or even three days. Soup is a meal. Put your fork down between bites. Weigh yourself twice a day. This is scary stuff. You may be thinking youre comfortable this old way. Therefore, a new way cant be as comfortable. You erroneously conclude youll feel uncomfortable. You dont know this will be the outcome; youve never tried the new way before; but you resist change even though you know the old way is not working. One component of addict

Extramarital Affairs: When Sexual Addiction and Infidelity Meet

Sex, sexual conquest, sexual release becomes a powerful force. Acting on the sexual impulse is a frequent activity. Thinking about sex likewise consumes an inordinate amount of time. Multiple ways of acting out sexually (porn, strip clubs, multiple sex partners, etc.) are common.2. This activity is bound by fear. The person lives with fear: the fear of getting caught, the fear of consequences, the fear of being found out, the fear of being abnormal, the fear of being punished, and the fear of losing family, spouse, job and respect.3. A promise/failure cycle ebbs and flows with the inability to say no. After an acting out episode the person usually experiences guilt/fear and promises to self or others, I wont do it again. This will last...until the urge is acted upon again. The spouse may be aware or unaware (but sense that something is not right) of the roller coaster and succession of broken promises.4. Others are used or seen as objects for personal gratification. No true intimacy is developed.5. Sexuality is often confused with other needs or connected to unresolved past pain or trauma. A child who experiences confusion around sexuality or sexual abuse of one form or another, may carry along that confusion and attempt to work that through in a marriage or extramarital affairs. (I worked with one woman who used a one-night fling with a significant person to clear up a particular issue.) She was free of that urge from that point on. No one ever knew. Could

They come to see the world and relationship through the eyes of their addiction. They have a great capacity to rationalize their behavior, deceive others and may lead a dual life.Tip: If you suspect these characteristics fit you or someone you love, get some help before your world disintegrates further or falls apart. Life can be different. Life, sexuality, a truly intimate relationship IS different. You can get there. Drug and Alcohol Addiction and Rehabilitation

Experimenting with drugs and alcohol is a gamble, and the stake is your life, your personality, and your future.Individuals often hide their drinking or deny that the fact that they have a problem. Signs of a possible alcoholism include having friends or relatives express concern, being irritated when people comment on their drinking, feeling guilty about their excessive alcohol consumption and thinking that they should moderate it but finds themselves unable to do so, or needs a morning drink to steady their nerves or relieve a hangover. On the other hand, drug dependence often begins with the misuse of legal drugs like prescription drugs and inhalants. Inhalants are legal substances that becomes illegal when use in a manner that causes a person to get high. These also include aerosol cleaners, gasoline, cleaning fluids, butane, and acetone. These things are legal to sell or buy however, they are not controlled substances and they are relatively cheap when compared with drugs.People with addiction work hard to resolve them, and with the support of family members and friends they are able to recover on their own. However in most cases, people they usually cannot stop drinking or using drugs by willpower alone. A lot of them require outside help, mostly from Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehab. Alcoholism treatment and addiction treatment may need medically supervised detoxification to avoid possible life-threatening withdrawal symptoms such as seizures and convulsion. Once they are stabilized, they need help resolving psychological issues associated with their problem drinking. There are numerous methods available for treating alcohol problems and substance abuse. Drug Addiction Treatment Centers: A Fresh Start

Drug Addiction Treatment Centers A Fresh StartAuthor: David WestbrookHalf a decade ago, I started working on a hotline to help addicts and their families find drug addiction treatment centers. Thousands of calls later, I still remember the first time I picked up the line.I could hardly make out what the woman on the other end was saying to me. Shelly (not her real name) was sobbing. She had just arrived at her father’s apartment and had found him passed out cold on the couch with a needle still sticking out of his arm. Why she call

Drug Addiction Treatment Centers: A Fresh Start

Fortunately, according the government, there are just over 13,000 drug addiction treatment centers waiting to help these individuals. For many, this marks a fresh start, a rebirth. It is an opportunity to rebuild broken relationships and broken lives. Those who successfully complete rehab join a recovery community that is already millions strong. This article, intended to be one in a three part series, is dedicated to addicts and family members of addicts who are searching for answers. Cure Your Addiction

I am an ex-fat person. I am also not selling anything.
My only wish now is to help people by passing on my
knowledge; I guess this sounds too good to be true.
When you have really nearly died a few times, money
takes on a sort of reduced role in your thinking.
Make no mistake about it, we are all going to die,
even you will die one day. When you are young this
seems a long long way away, I'm fifty now, and it
sure seems a little closer to hand than it did.
So it makes sense to make the tim

Cure Your Addiction

To break that down further, in order to do this you will
need to changeyour whole way of life, permanently.
Make no mistake, if you are really and truly HAPPY
with what you are doing, then fine, go ahead and do it,
but acknowledge that most things you really enjoy
overdoing kill you slowly, and painfully, and most things
done to excess bring attendant guilt.
Stop reading now if you don't want to quit for good and
all or else you are wasting someone else's bandwidth who
has what it takes when you have not got the moral fibre. What it takes is a modicum of will-power combined with
a hell of a lot of common sense. I have had a lot of addictions,
I am an excessive natured person. I find the first step in
losing any of them is to look at them as a phase I have
grown out of. I have matured to such an extent I no
longer need their crutch to carry me onwards.Generally speaking, most addictions are to make up
for or act as a distraction from the world as it is.
We have to learn to face up to life instead of running
away from it, and hiding behind false barriers built
up on the shaky foundations of fleeting happiness
bought at great actual and mental cost via addiction.We have to move on and grow up and mature;
Much as we ourselves look at kids and feel,
"that's wrong, but they'll grow out of it in time".
And they usually do, don't they, because they see
that long-term they are better off without doing what
they are doing.
Why don't we tell them at the time?
Because we know they'll tend to do the opposite,
and that only they can learn to be wise in the fullness
of time.We can but advise, and sow the seeds. Thus it is with ourselves. We have established that we can expect NO HELP
FROM OTHERS. Why should anyone else help us
anyway, it's our problem. If someone came to you with
"Ive got a terrible problem with my lawyer, and my cat isn't eating, my mother-in-law is being funny and I've got
the results of my x-rays tomorrow" you might well be
a little concerned, but I bet your first thought would
really and truly be "how can I get away as quickly as
I possibly can without causing offence? ".So why the hell should others be expected to listen to you
bleating on about helping you to quit your problem.IT'S YOUR PROBLEM.Also you will never stop doing anything you really LIKE
DOING. You have to really want to stop for good and ever,
not just when you attain a certain level, because you will
only gradually go back to what you were before, a PAIN.If you hear an alcoholic say after a year off the booze
"I'm ok for a pint now" what do you REALLY think
will happen if he/she has a pint/short??
You know as well as I do.So really you have to :a) Realise it is just you that matters and does anything
b) realise you have to really WANT to quit
c) Realise no-one else is going to do it for you magically.
d) realise that it was a phase you had to live through
e) realise that it will definitely kill you, very very painfully
f) realise that you will have gained from your descent into hellThere are many ways to quit addictions for different people.
If you are reading this they have probably all failed.Wrong.YOU HAVE FAILED.
MOST of the methods work if you WANT them to work.
I suggest that you treat it as a phase of your life, and
you have learned from this phase and wish to move on
and prove to ever

Curbing Your Carbohydrate Addiction

Curbing Your Carbohydrate AddictionAuthor: Chris GuerrieroSome experts consider carbohydrate craving and addiction as something more of the body than of the mind, meaning biological factors are generally considered to be the main trigger for carb cravings. These cravings are described as a compelling craving, or desire for carbohydrate-rich foods; an escalating, recurring need or drive for starches, snack foods, junk food, or sweets. This is where the cycle of carbohydrates and cravings start. High

Curbing Your Carbohydrate Addiction

All in all, most experts agree that by eating enough wholesome foods at meals and by having a healthy afternoon snack, people can minimize their cravings for sweets. Here are recommendations to curb carbo cravings.1. Eat less but more often. Eat small meals or snacks containing some PROTEIN every few hours to keep blood-sugar levels steady. Skipping meals causes blood sugar levels to drop, which leaves you yearning for processed carbohydrates and sweets for energy.2. Be selective about the carbohydrates you eat. Avoid nutrient-stripped foods made of white flour, white rice, refined sugar and highly concentrated sweeteners. Look for foods rich in fiber such as fresh vegetables and fruits, which level off blood sugar.3. Don't skimp on protein to make room for large amounts of carbohydrates. Protein gives the body extended energy, helps balance blood sugar and keeps cravings at bay.4. Limit your intake of alcohol, fruit juice and caffeinated drinks. These cause abrupt blood-sugar highs followed by troublesome blood-sugar lows, leaving you starved for energy.5. Eat small portions of seasonal goodies AFTER protein-containing meals or snacks, if at all. If you eat sweets on an empty stomach, you'll experience blood-sugar lows that trigger the desire for more sweets.6. Avoid becoming famished during shopping trips and while traveling. Carry protein-rich snacks such as nuts, hard-boiled eggs, nutrient-balanced energy bars or "vegetable green" tablets like those listed. These high-power foods are great when you feel your energy drop.7. Get enough sleep. Conservative Radio Hosts Prescription Drug Addiction Story

One of the most tragic personal prescription drug addiction stories in recent years is that of radio commentator Rush Limbaugh. He achieved a level of fame, wealth, and influence that most people would envy, but he dealt with a privately devastating prescription drug addiction.Rush Limbaugh is a prominent conservative talk show host and author. Around 20 million listeners tune into his radio show Monday through Friday. He wrote several books that have become bestsellers and have sold millions of copies. His conservative opinions (including calls for personal responsibility and clean living) and quick wit made him a national superstar; many people were shocked when it developed that he was addicted to drugs, himself. In October of 2003, Palm Beach County Police

His conservative opinions (including calls for personal responsibility and clean living) and quick wit made him a national superstar; many people were shocked when it developed that he was addicted to drugs, himself. In October of 2003, Palm Beach County Police linked Rush Limbaugh to the illegal black market of prescription drugs. Limbaugh admitted that he had become addicted to prescription pain medication several years earlier, when he underwent a spinal surgery. The surgery was unsuccessful and the radio commentator continued to experience excruciating pain in his lower back and neck. He claimed that he checked himself into treatment centers on two previous occasions to try to quit using the pain pills.Though Limbaugh spoke out against drug use many times on his radio broadcast, he came clean ab

Confessions of a Fragrance Fanatic

I made my first sandalwood-rose combination and spent the next days coming up with more and more blending ideas, some even including the few citrus essential oils that I had bought before my vanilla indulgence. I the library and the net to find ideas and soon had pages of notes of what fragrances were able to be combined to create layers of scents. From fleeting top notes such as neroli [orange blossom] and lemon to middle notes that would involve longer lasting scents like lilac and sweet pea to the deeper and sultriest notes such as vanilla and patchouli. Perfumery was based on music and a perfumer was considered the conductor. While I wasnt a perfumer, I was able to obtain fragrance duplications, usually called dupes. Now dupes were added to my ever-expanding lists of must haves. I had soon amassed a supply of impressive designers to my kitchen cupboard: Chanel, Thierry Mugler, Guerlain, Bvlgari, Burberry, and Vera Wang. Also filling my shadowy [both essential oils and fragrances needed to be stored in a cool, dark place] storeroom were imitations of Bath & Body Works, and Victorias Secret scents. Soon my fixation on various fruits such as mango, coconut, pineapple, kiwi, and several berry scents were being stocked in a careful array of alphabetically ordered scents. The fruity phase morphed into desserts and there were several companies who provided various calorie-free chocolate, variations of vanilla, brown sugar, pumpkin pie, and cinnamon bun scents.Last week as I searched for a coconut lime verbena, which really was a coconut lime as the verbena was undetectable, I took a stock of what had happened to that cupboard in the northwest corner of my kitchen. Inside sat a stockpile of synthetic scents. I went online and found a vanilla absolute that a reputable essential oil only supplier carried and purchased a small amount. It cost more than at least a dozen fragrances, but I felt a sense of relief that I was out of those twisting, dank dark alleyways and back onto the tree-lined roadway that smelled of true nature.About the AuthorRead and learn at http:/www.lisamaliga.com Discover the diverse writings ranging from soap and bath & body recipes to fiction, figure skating, aromatherapy, herbal hints, and helpful publishing advice. Confessions of a Fragrance Fanatic

Yes readers, I did something desperate: I ordered my first vanilla fragrance oil [commonly referred to as an f.o.]. When it arrived a week later, I looked at the 1 ounce amber bottle and even before opening it I just knew it was a sham, an impersonation of the vanilla bean; a mockery of nature. Carefully opening the bottle, I took my first whiff. Surprised, I took another, longer sniff of the vanilla f.o. It smelled like vanilla, no question about that! The cost was kinder on my credit card, and the amount was larger too. But what happened when it was poured into a batch of soap? Would it hold up in my new concoction of oils that were blended into whipped shea butter? In my online research Id read of scents smelling great out of the bottle [OOB] but turning into something quite different when added to bath & body products. The world of aromatherapy is comprised of scents that originate directly from plants and their various parts: flowers, roots, fruit, bark, or leaves. If you buy a bottle of lavender essential oil from a reputable source you will find it has four attributes listed on the label: country of origin, Latin [botanical] name, part of plant used, and method of distillation. [Cold pressed, steam distilled, etc.]. Highly principled suppliers will even provide a fifth element, the principal constituents in classifying their essen

Compulsive Gamblers Guilt Affects Their Gambling Addiction Recovery

Through various discussions with compulsive gamblers, I found a majority felt guilty and ashamed about the following:* Feeling guilty you lied to your family and friends* Feeling ashamed that your family and friends know you have a problem gambling* Feeling guilty that friends and family may never trust you again* Feeling guilty and ashamed knowing how much money you lost that could have been better spent.* Feeling guilty you didnt spend enough time with your children.* Feeling guilty about your self destructive behavior* Feeling guilty you didnt go to relatives and friends events (birthdays, graduations etc.)In time people will forgive the compulsive gambler, but can the compulsive gambler forgive them selves?Friends and family will come around if the compulsive gambler keeps their word from now on. A lot of gamblers feel this way when their world comes crumbling down.Take the time to improve your quality of life and the compulsive gamblers feelings of guilt will diminish over time.Mr. For more information on gambling addiction and stop gambling you can check out: I Stopped Gambling So Can You http:/www.istoppedgambling.com/Teenage Gambling Addiction website: http:/www.teenage-gambling-addiction.org/

Common Symptoms of Prescription Drug Addiction

Treatment can begin once the symptoms are recognized and the addict realizes that he or she has a problem. Kicking a prescription drug addiction can be difficult and painful, but it is infinitely better than a lifetime wasted on drugs. One of the main signs of a prescription drug addiction is that the user develops an increased tolerance for the drug. This means that the user needs an increased amount of the drug to get the same effects that used to result from a smaller amount of the drug. When a person increases their tolerance for a prescription drug, more and more of the drug is required to get the desired effects. For example a person may need to take four times as much of a drug to get the same effect. This is a problem for a number of reasons. It can lead to dea

It can lead to death or hospitalization due to an overdose, it can cause the tolerance to continue to rise, and it can cause serious financial problems if an addicted person needs to buy a significantly larger amount of the drug.Physical dependence is another prescription drug addiction symptom. Physical dependence is when a person needs a certain amount of the prescription drug in their system in order to function normally. The body adapts to the drug and needs it to perform. Withdrawal symptoms often occur when an addict quits using the drug. Some withdrawal symptoms include feel

Christian Religious Addiction in Hawaii?

Gerald May (1988) states that addiction is a "state of compulsion, obsession, or preoccupation that enslaves a person's will and desire" (p.14). Shaef (1987) defines addiction as "any process over which we are powerless" (p. 18). She divides addictions into two categories: substance addictions -alcohol, drugs, nicotine, food) and process addictions -money-accumulation, gambling, sex, work, worry, and religion.Research in the area of religious addiction is deficient, however there were a few older related studies found in the literature. Simmonds (1977) reports that there is some evidence to indicate that "religious people in general tend to exhibit dependency on some external source of gratification" (p. 114). Black and London (1966) found a high positive correlation between the variables of obedience to parents and country and indices of religious belief such as church attendance, belief in God and prayer (p. 39). Goldsen, et al. (1960) showed that people who were more religious consistently showed tendencies toward greater social conformity than did the nonreligious, a finding consistent with the notion that religious people seek external approval. These results are supported by Fisher (1964 p. 784), who reported that a measure of social approval and religion were strongly associated. Religious people show dependence not only on social values, but also on other external agents. Duke (1964, p. 227) found that church attendance indicated more responsiveness to the effects of a placebo. In a study of 50 alcoholics, it was found that those who were dependent on alcohol were more likely to have had a religious background (Walters, 1957, p. 405).The few research studies aforementioned seem to suggest that religious people develop a dependency on religious practices for social approval. Since religious people seem to be describable in terms of relatively high levels of dependence, it seems useful to borrow a concept suggested by Peele and Brodsky (1975)- that of "addiction." According to these writers addiction is "a person's attachment to a sensation, an object, or another person... such as to lessen his appreciation of and ability to deal with other things in his environment, or in himself, so that he has become increasingly dependent on that experience as his o

According to these writers addiction is "a person's attachment to a sensation, an object, or another person... such as to lessen his appreciation of and ability to deal with other things in his environment, or in himself, so that he has become increasingly dependent on that experience as his only source of gratification" (p. 168).There are a variety of definitions for the concept of religious addiction. Arterburn and Felton (1992) state that "when a person is excessively devoted to something or surrenders compulsively and habitually to something, that pathological and physiological dependency on a substance, relationship, or behavior results in addiction" (p. 104). They indicate that, "like any other addiction, the practice of religion becomes central to every other aspect of life...all relationships evolve from the religion, and the dependency on the religious practice and its members removes the need for a dependency on God...the religion and those who practice it then become the central power for the addict who no longer is in touch with God" (p. 117).Spirituality can also have pathological aspects to it. Vaughan (1991) reports that "the shadow side to a healthy search for wholeness can be called addiction to spirituality" (p. 105). He indicates that this can be found among people who use spirituality as a solution to problems they are unwilling to face. Van-Kaam (1987) presents a viewpoint of addiction as a quasi religious or falsified religious presence. He reports that "an understanding of the relationship between religious presence and addiction allows potential dangers of receptivity to be identified in order to realize the real value of true religious presence and the shame of its counterfeit, addiction" (p. 243). McKenzie (1991) discusses addiction as an unauthentic form of spiritual existence. He says that, "addiction is born of the human desire for transcendence which is often perverted or misplaced by societies that encourage their members to seek ultimate meaning in dimensions that have no regard for the transcendent" (p. 325). Heise (1991, p. 11) explores the fundamentalist Christian's focus on perfectionism, and it's possible contribution to an increase in dysfunctional individuals, family systems, and addictions.Until recently, research in this area has primarily focused on religious cults. Estimates of the number of cults range from several hundred to several thousand, with a total membership up to three million (Allen and Metoyer, 1988, p. 38; Melton, 1986). According to Margaret Singer, Ph.D., a psychologist specializing in cult phenomena, "the word cult describes a power structure,...what really sets a cult apart is that one person has proclaimed himself to have some special knowledge, and if he can convince others to let him be in charge, he will share that knowledge" (Collins & Frantz, 1994, p. 30). The Jim Jones People's Temple mass suicide has been documented in the news, and more recently David Koresh's Branch Davidian Christian cult. Cults, both destructive and benign, have been with us in various guises since time immemorial. Many psychologists and psychiatrists have become knowledgeable about destructive cults in the course of their work with patients affected by the problem.Within the past few years, however, traditional Church members have faced their compulsive behavior and harmful beliefs. Doucette (1992) reports tha

Are You Suffering From Addiction ?

Depending upon the addiction, nervous system functions are altered. So sensing, perceiving and reacting functions of individuals are impeded. For example, alcohol is a depressant and slows down all of these functions. So a drunk driver facing an immediate collision will in all likelihood react slower than a healthy, alert driver. And whether or not the addictive substances are inhaled, going into the lung system; or injected, traveling via the blood system; or swallowed, entering the digestive system, also affects different bodily reactions, responses and overall health. One long-term effect is an increased tolerance level with dopamine reaching out into other brain areas that cloud judgment and behavioral considerations and choices. And ultimately depression results, even amidst opposing or negative stimuli, like the negative effects of narcotics on behaviors and on the body / mind and like trying to withdrawal or discontinue use.Other long-term effects can include changing of the brains shape and possible permanent brain damage, depending upon the addiction and length of compulsive activity. And other health problems like cancer from cigarette smoking can result.Addiction summed up is: compulsive behavior despite negative consequences. For more related information visit: http:/www.AnxietyAttacksCure.com - a site that offers advice for avoiding, coping with anxiety and panic attacks. Are You Suffering From Addiction Author: Christopher RuaneMany researchers believe that addiction is a behavior that can be controlled to some extent and also a brain disease. And since some testing with functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRI) found that all addictions tend to cause nearly the same reactions inside the brain, there could be one type of control model for addiction health-related issues.Others express the opinion that some of us have an addictive personality and therefore are more likely to have problems than others. In other words, just as there is one disorder o

All the world's problems vanish as you are wrapped in a cozy TV Neverland. The relaxation is almost instantaneous. The quickness of the relaxation conditions you to associate TV with relaxation. As long as you are watching TV, you feel relaxed.Unfortunately, this sense of relaxation ends as soon as the TV is turned off. The cozy little Neverland disappears. You don't even get the benefit of a gradual withdrawal. Poof! Neverland is gone. With drugs, the faster a drug leaves the body, the more addictive it is. The Scientific American researchers, Kubey and Csikszentmihalyi, who explored TV's addictive qualities, explain:"A tranquilizer that leaves the body rapidly is much more likely to cause dependence than one that leaves the body slowly, precisely because the user is more aware that the drug's effects are wearing off. Similarly, viewers' vague learned sense that they will feel less relaxed if they stop viewing may be a significant factor in not turning the set off."After the set is turned off you will feel either worse or the same as you did before watching TV. If you were trying to avoid painful feelings, those feelings will surge back when you reenter the real world. Worse, if you have acclimated to TV's forced relaxation by watching too much, you may become dependent on the TV to relax.TV "Grabs" and "Holds" your attentionTV shows use cinematic

She told me she committed suicide because she had mounting debt, a marriage that was crumbling and could not continue her self destructive behavior. All three related to her gambling addiction. I was surprised to hear that no one will ever be told the truth that gambling addiction was the reason she took her life. The newspapers two days later printed a small article on one of the back pages stating it was not a murder but a suicide.People take their lives for many reasons. Statistics have shown that a person with a gambling addiction takes their life two times as much as any other addiction. I believe the statistics are even higher. As in this situation there is no recorded documentation that this person ever had a gambling addiction. I spoke to a few people and no one ever knew she like to gamble. An Introduction to Cocaine Abuse

Signs of cocaine abuse include: change in mood, appitite and sleep cycles, depression, absence at work and home, running/ sniffly nose, new group of friends and a drop in school grades. Loss of interest in hobbys and other activities are also common signs of cocaine usage. Teenagers may also have a frequent need for money, without a good reason. Confronting the suspected user is the best solution. Cocaine addiction's should not go overlooked and should be treated ASAP. Long term effects of cocaine include: irritability, mood swings, restlessness, paranoya, possible auditory hallucinations and the number one long-term effect is addiction to the substance itself. Many treatments have been found to be have great affects on treating cocaine addiction. It is important when selecting treatment methods, to match the treatment to the individual's needs. The main idea is to get the cocaine abuser to stop the use of the drug and help them maintain a positive outlook throughout the withdrawal. Rewards for positive behaviour and attitude are sometimes given and staying cocaine free becomes easier for the users in time. Residential programs focus on re-socialization, group therapy, and team work to assist an addict through withdrawal. It is very important, regardless of the treatment, is moral support from loved ones. Cocaine addiction is not easy to beat, but it's not impossible,

Americas Secret Addiction

Our bodies require a certain level of sustenance to thrive. It is when the intake becomes excessive that problems arise: appearance, the inability to be active, fatigue, depressed mood, and strains on the internal organs. If we can temper that level of intake, we can avert the consequences that follow overindulgence in anything.Such is indeed the focus of many weight control programs. However, they are missing one vital ingredient: acceptance of personal responsibility. At a 12-Step meeting, members repetitively admit to the group: "My name is B and I'm an alcoholic." Imagine, if you will, the different atmosphere that would be engendered if a member were to state: "My name is B. I drink a lot because I inherited the genes from my drunken parents and I can't drink, like all my friends can, without overdoing it. It's so unfair that everyone else can enjoy a drink and I can't."Such a statement sounds ridiculous coming from an admitted problem drinker yet that is exactly what we allow from our problem eaters. It is far more likely that we will tell a close friend: "M, I think you have a problem with alcohol and I want you to get help," than we will tell an equally close friend: "G, I think you have a problem with too much eating and I want you to get help."We remain silent about overweight because we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. We use euphemisms like "heavy" and "queen-sized" to avoid the word "fat." When a very overweight friend asks plaintively, "Don't you think this dress makes me look slimmer?" we quietly agree, refusing to give the honest answer that nothing in the world will make her look slimmer except losing 60 pounds of avoirdupois! One lesson learned over decades of CD research and treatment is that the problem must be acknowledged before it can be addressed and beaten. CD clients are notorious for making excuses, playing mind games with those around them, and shirking self-responsibility whenever they can. If we can bring ourselves to acknowledge that we are addicted to food, it allows for eventual movement into a process of change, bypassing the excuses and rationalizations at which overeaters excel -- to an extent that their CD counterparts would admire.Confrontation of the problem requires that we drop the faade of politeness and euphemistic phrasing. As a society, we need to look at others and ourselves and call it as we see it. If I'm fat, I'm fat, and it's my responsibility to not only admit that honestly, but to also admit to myself and the world that it is my fault: I am the one who made myself fat. No one else forced food into my mouth. Like the recovering alcoholic at the bar, I can always say no or drink a plain club soda. Like the recovering cocaine addict who learns to stay away from certain street corners or drug houses, I can stay away from bakeries, fast food outlets, and pizza parlors.Weight control can be simple - eat only what you need to survive - but never easy. The fallacy of many diets is that we can lose weight without suffering. Stopping or minimizing CD abuse is always painful and a craving for chocolate, ice cream, or the urge for sugar (no one seems to crave vegetables) can be as overwhelming to the dieter as the addict's emotional need for his drug of choice.Naming our national weight problem for what it really is, a plain old addiction to food, releases us to start the process of rehab and recovery that has been so completely developed in the CD field. Honesty, and the willingness to work through pain to reach our goal, allows us to not only accept our responsibility for our problem but also to relish the triumph of o

Americas Secret Addiction

Except, perhaps, for politicians or ministers, there is little social stigma attached to such mistakes unless there are criminal overtones that may lead to incarceration.Television and films have educated us on the dangers and side effects of dependence upon alcohol, heroin, cocaine, amphetamines, designer drugs, steroids, pain pills, cannabis and opium. We had to coin the term chemical dependency (CD) to completely cover the broad and ever-growing field. We approach individuals ensnared in their abuse as victims of a disease, to be educated and helped as long as they have a willingness to change and are prepared for the painful journey that owning responsibility for one's own self-destructive behavior demands. But the most widespread, self-destructive, dangerous addiction afflicting America is never discussed: FOOD.The treatment of overeating is extensive: diet clinics, fitness programs, fat farms, pl

Americas Great Pharmacy Seduction: Fundamentals of Prescription Drug Addiction

These ads are designed to seduce for one reason. The pharmaceutical apparatus, the medical system and pharmacy world that promotes drug usage is a scam, a hoax: A multi-trillion dollar International fraud that preys on ignorance and trusting nature of human beings. Why else wouldthey hide behind lies and government sanctioned laws designed to protect their industry? The entire drug industry is fraudulent. Matthias Rath, MD, founder of the Dr. Rath Health Foundation, says, "The pharmaceutical industry offers "health" to millions of patients - but does not deliver the goods. Instead it delivers products that merely alleviate symptoms while promoting the underlying disease as a precondition for its future business. To cover the fraud, this industry spends twice the amount of money in covering it up than it spends on research on future therapies."4Pharmaceutical companies and the pharmacy trade, especially, know people would never buy their product if the truth were widely known. Long-term usage of any prescription or over-the-counter drug is always dangerous to ones health and is oftentimes lethal.Prescription drug addiction (long-term use of drugs) kills 100,000 Americans each year and injures or maims another two million, according to the American Medical Association (AMA). This AMA figure does not include some 40,000 deaths each year caused by over-the-counter pain medications.Whats Happening Here?Lets begin with a simple, truthful premise. Good medicine heals and never harms. Bad medicine never heals, and can only cause harm and death. Isnt this just common sense? It should be!Look at it this way. If prescription drugs are suppose to be good for people, where are all the healthy drug consumers? Do you know of anyone taking drugs long-term say they are feeling healthy? To compare: Ask the healthiest people you know if they take drugs. Theyll stare back at you as if to say, What do you mean? I dont do drugs of any kind!Statistically speaking, there is no such thing as a safe drug.5 All drugs carry the risk of harmful side effects, including damage to vital organs and death. The risk increases exponentially with long-term usage. Your life is worth much more then the risk of injury or death from chemical drugs. There are much safer and better answers to health issues than long-term use of drugs (prescription drug addiction).Note: The short-term (temporary) use of drugs during medical emergencies is certainly legitimate and is an altogether different issue. In a medical emergency, patients and administered drugs are carefully monitored every moment. In this environment drugs can save lives. Albeit, all drugs remain dangerous which is why they should not be taken long-term.Exploiting Human Nature:Television ads like the Zoloft and Vioxx ads are purposely designed to seduce and tempt us for a reason. The pharmaceutical cartel knows our human nature is tempted to take the easy way out of conflict. For example: Its an easier choice to live on Prilosec to manage stomach ulcers than it is to make healthy life-style and diet changes that would heal ulcers. Its easier to pop a pill to sleep all night than it is to make changes in our life that would allow us to fall sleep naturally without a pill.Truth is; it is much wiser to just say no to drugs, and instead make diet changes and exercise to stay healthy and physically fit. Diet and exercise can not only prevent, but also literally reverse disease like diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, clinical depression, osteoporosis, irritable bowel syndrome, and many others. The smart thing to do would be to tell the pharmaceutical cartel to go to Hell, but, hey, they are already there: And that raises still another issue. There is a huge spiritual consideration toward prescription drug addiction many Christians do not see or understand.Drugs Versus God:The modern English word, pharmacy, is derived from the ancient Greek word pharmakeia, pronounced far-mak-i-ah. The root word of pharmakeia is pharmakeus, which means: a drug, spell-giving potion, druggist, poisoner, a magician or sorcerer.6 The word pharmakeia transliterated means medicine from a pharmacy. 7There are three verses of Scripture in the Bibles New Testament that condemns medicine from a pharmacy. They are Galatians 5:20: Revelations 9:21 and Revelations 18:23. However, before you go pick up your Bible, realize whatever translation you read is just that, a translation from an ancient text. You will not find the original word pharmakeia or medicine from a pharmacy in those verses. What you

You will not find the original word pharmakeia or medicine from a pharmacy in those verses. What you will find are the words witchcraft, magic spell and sorcery. In choosing the words witchcraft, magic spell, and sorcery over the more accurately defined meaning for pharmakeia, pharmacy, modern day Bible translators (either by neglect or design) effectively obliterated any spiritual connection to taking medicine from a pharmacy. Now who do you suppose benefits the most from this tidbit of information? Why God Condemns Medicine From a Pharmacy:Pharmakeia is listed as a work of the flesh in Scripture (Galatians 5:20), because those who turn to drugs as a way of life (and those who encourage their use) place dependency on a false reality (an illusion) instead of in Gods provision. Pharmakeia is an insidious scheme, one that keeps millions of people from knowing the power of natural healing afforded to them by Gods creation..Conclusion:The price human beings have paid and continue to pay for prescription and over-the-counter drugs is staggering. Education and common sense is the best defense against this unholy onslaught on humanity. The pharmaceutical cartel thrives by seducing people to ask their doctors to prescribe them dangerous drugs for the rest of their lives, then hides and denies any responsibility. Our body was created with the natural ability to maintain life-long health, given half the chance to do so. It is human nature to avoid healthy life-style changes that can bring our body back into a natural balance of health and well-being. Drugs are not the easy answer. For every medically named disease, there is a safe, natural remedy available. It is our responsibility to seek out that remedy, and live a life-style that promotes healthy living.References:1. Adultery as Sexual Addiction : Should You Stay Married?

) Do you think that ending the marriage would make life immeasurably worse for your children? Do you fear for their welfare if you confront his behavior?4. Do you really want to save the marriage or do you see absolutely no way out and are resigned to this marriage? You may experience a powerful pervasive feeling of being stuck. You may believe that you have tried everything and that it is in the best interest of everyone to stay where you are. Couple your weariness with your sense of being stuck and you may tolerate a great deal of disappointment and pain for the sake of the marriage.5. Do you really want to save the marriage or do you see yourself as incapable of getting out? Your self-esteem may be at rock bottom. You may think of yourself as incapable of starting over, incapable of starting a new relationship, incapable of making the transition to a new life and incapable of making decisions on your own. It is not unusual for the spouse of someone who cant say no to lose her sense of dignity and self-respect as he attempts to control, intimidate and dictate.6. Do you really want to save the marriage or do you need to protect him? Do you see beyond what is there to him basic emptiness and fear? Its there and you know it? Perhaps you fear what might happen to him if you do indeed leave? Will he be able to cope? What destructive path might he take next? So you hang in there, aware of his underlying pain and hope some day it will be addressed.7. Do you really want to save the marriage or do you live in the fear that if you talk about leaving you will face danger? Perhaps you might face violence? You might face the emotional game playing at a new level of intensity? Does it seem wiser to hold back, not confront, not move toward change for fear of what he might say or do? Do you sometimes feel frozen with fear?8. Do you really want to save the marriage or have you given no thought to how you might start over? This is a little different than the fear of starting over. Perhaps your life has been so wrapped around his or the care of your children that you have given little, if any, thought to you. Have you thought of your desires, your skills, your dreams, your hopes and your future apart from him? Or, apart from your children?Take some time to seriously and thoughtfully address these questions. Addictions To Gambling on The Rise!

The I Stopped Gambling So Can You website continues to receive alarming emails from friends family and the compulsive gambler. The site was developed to help people associated with compulsive gambling addiction. The alarming rate in the rise of addicted individuals has caused the states to rethink what they are doing and how to help this segment of the population. The individuals who sought help through various programs now know they are not alone. The unfortunate part is in most cases they are starting all over. If the States would reach out and help these people then the outcomes may be different. If a person goes into a bar and is apparently drunk, the bartenders are not going to serve this person any alcoholic drinks and may even recommend a cab. At a casino, people use the cash machines until they are unable to take out any more money. People cash checks and even take cash advances from their credit cards, but no one at the casinos is willing to step up to the plate and help these people out.I have talked with hundreds of people who excessively gambled. These people knew they were addicted and always planned to spend a specific amount of money. After being at the casinos with all the lights, bells and whistles they fell into a trance and no longer had any

Addiction to Worry

Once I understood this, I was able to notice the stomach clenching that occurred whenever I worried and stop the thought that was causing the stress.Carole is in the process of learning this. She sees that her worry makes her feel very anxious and depressed. She sees that when she doesnt worry, she is not nearly as fatigued as when she allows her addiction to worry to take over. She sees that when she stays in the moment rather than projecting into the future, she feels much better. The key for Carole in stopping worrying is in accepting that worry does not give her control.Giving up the illusion of control that worry gives us not easy for anyone who worries. Yet there is an interesting paradox regarding worry. I have found that when I am in the present moment, I have a much better chance of making choices that support my highest good than when Im stuck thinking about the future. Rather than giving us control, worry prevents us from being present enough to make loving choices for ourselves and others. Addiction to Worry

The turning point came for me the day my husband and I were going to the beach and I started to worry that the house would burn down and my children would die. I became so upset from the worry that we had to turn around and come home. I knew then that I had to do something about it.As I started to examine the cause of worry, I realized that worriers believe that worry will stop bad things from happening. My mother worried her whole life and none of the bad things she worried about ever happened. She concluded that nothing bad happened because she worried! She really believed that she could control things with her worry. My father, however, never worried about anything, and nothing bad ever happened to him either. My mother believed that nothing bad happened to my father because of her worry! She really believed until the day she died (from heart problems that may have been due to her constant worry) that if she stopped worrying, everything would fall apart. My father is still alive at 92, even without her worrying about him!It is not easy to stop worrying when you have been practicing worrying for most of your life. In order for me to stop worrying, I needed to recognize that the belief that worry has control over outcomes is a complete illusion. I needed to see that, not only is worry a waste of time, but that it can have grave negative consequences on health and well-being. Addiction to Thinking

The purpose of all of our addictions are to avoid pain, especially the deep soul loneliness that we all feel in this society. The problem is that our disconnection from our feelings - which is our Inner Child - creates aloneness as well. Our feeling self, our Inner Child, is left alone inside with no one to attend to the painful feelings. It is only when our desire is to learn about how we may be causing our own painful feelings that we open to our inner experience. Our desire to learn also opens the door to our spiritual connection, which we cannot feel when our intent is to avoid pain with our various addictions. It took Randall many months to be willing to feel his painful feelings, but he discovered that when he finally had the courage to feel them, it was not as bad as he thought. In fact, when he was no longer abandoning his Inner Child by going into his addictive thinking, he no longer felt alone within. Connecting with himself allowed him to connect with Spirit more and more of the time. Rather than getting there through thinking and trying to control it, he was getting there by being present in the moment with his inner experience - surrendering to the moment. Randall found that while he could not control others and the outcome of things, he actually did have control over his misery - by choosing the intent to learn rather than protecting against pain. While he couldnt control Spirit, he did have control his own intent, which eventually led to his being able to connect with Spirit.About The AuthorMargaret Paul, Ph.D. is the best-selling author and co-author of eight books, including "Do I Have To Give Up Me To Be Loved By You?" Addiction to Thinking

We believe if we can just figure things out we can control others and the outcome of things. We want to control how people feel about us and treat us by saying just the right thing - so we have to think about it over and over to discover the right thing to say. This is called ruminating. Ruminating is obsessively thinking about something over and over in the hopes of finally coming up with the right answer, the right thing to say, the right way to be to have control over others and the outcome of things. Ruminating is also a way to have control over our own painful feelings, which is what addictions are all about. In my work with Randall, he would immediately go into his head and analyze what was happening in the session the minute feelings came up. Over and over I would bring him out of his head and into his body, into his feelings. His feelings were so terrifying to him that he could only stay with his feelings for a few moments before he was back into his head - explaining, figuring out, intellectualizing. He was so terrified of the soul loneliness and aloneness he felt that he had learned to avoid these feelings with his mind. Yet until Randall was willing to feel his painful feelings, which had been there since childhood, he couldnt stay out of his head. As long as his intent was to control his pain rather than learn from it, he would not be able to move into the spiritual connection he so desired. The purpose of all of our addictions are to avoid pain, especially the deep soul loneliness that we all feel in this society. The problem is that our disconnection from our feelings - which is our Inner Child - creates aloneness as well. Addiction to Clutter

While my mothers house always looked neat and clean, the cupboards and drawers were filled with clutter. My son told me he found 6 broken hair dryers in one cabinet. Why would my mother want to keep six broken hair dryers? My mother grew up during the depression and always had a fear of not having enough. No matter how much she accumulated materially, she never felt that she had enough. The six hair dryers made her feel safe from her fear, even if they didnt work.Carrie has trouble throwing things away, especially magazines with important information in them. She subscribes to many magazines but, being the mother of three small children, doesnt often have the time to read them. So the magazines pile up and pile up. Carrie hopes at some point to have the time to read them, but that time never seems to come. When asked why she wont throw them out, her answer is, Because there might be something important in them and I dont want to miss it. Carrie fears missing out on some important piece of information information that may give her the peace she is seeking. It makes her feel safer and in control to have all the magazines around her with their important information, even if she never gets to read them. When we dont feel safe on the inner level, then we try to make ourselves feel safe on the outer level, and clutter is one way of doing that. Whether its things, such as hair dryers, or information, such as in magazines and newspapers, clutterers do not trust that they will have what they need. In addition, clutterers may be resistant people who see messiness and clutter as a way of not being controlled by someone who wants them to be neat.HEALING THE ADDICTION TO CLUTTERClutter is created and maintained by a wounded, frightened part of oneself, the wounded self the part that operates from the illusion of having control over people, events,

In addition, clutterers may be resistant people who see messiness and clutter as a way of not being controlled by someone who wants them to be neat.HEALING THE ADDICTION TO CLUTTERClutter is created and maintained by a wounded, frightened part of oneself, the wounded self the part that operates from the illusion of having control over people, events, and outcomes. As long as this wounded self is in charge of the decisions, the clutterer will continue to accumulate clutter as a way to provide comfort and the illusion of control over feeling safe, or continue to be messy as a way to resist being controlled.Healing occurs when the individual does the inner work necessary to develop a strong, loving adult self. A loving adult is the aspect of us that opens to and connects with a spiritual source of wisdom, strength, and love. A loving adult is capable of taking loving action in our own behalf. The loving adult operates from truth rather than from the false beliefs of the wounded self, and knows that the comfort and safety that clutter seems to provide is an illusion that no matter how much clutter accumulates, the clutterer still feels afraid. The loving Adult knows that safety and integrity do not lie in resistance. Only a loving adult who is tuned in to the guidance provided by a spiritual source and capable of taking loving action in ones own behalf can create a sense of inner safety.Practicing the six steps of Inner Bonding that we teach develops this powerful loving adult.About The AuthorMargaret Paul, Ph.D. is the best-selling author and co-author of eight books, including "Do I Have To Give Up Me To Be Loved By You?" Addiction to Blame

It became apparent to Allen that he would not be able to stop blaming his wife until he stopped blaming and judging himself. His addiction to blaming others was a direct result of his self-abuse.The problem was that Allen had learned to be very self-indulgent regarding his thoughts. He let his thoughts run rampant, never stopping to discern whether or not what he was telling himself was the truth or was a lie. As a result, he was constantly allowing the wounded part of himself, his ego self, to be in charge. And this part of him was filled with all the lies he had learned in the 46 years of his life.Allen was appalled when he realized that all his anger at others was really his anger at himself for abusing himself. He was projecting onto others what he was doing to himself. He saw that he was especially sensitive to others judgment because he was so judgmental of himself. As we explored why Allen was so self-abusive, he realized that he believed that if he judged himself enough, he could have control over getting himself to do it right. He realized this wasnt true by an experience he had playing tennis.I played last Wednesday and I was in a really good mood. I was just playing for the fun of it, rather than to play well, and I played my best game ever! The very next day I played worse than I have for a long time. I realized that, having done so well on Wednesday, I now wanted control over doing as well on Thursday. As soon as I tried to control it, I lost it.I want to stop doing this, but Ive been doing it my while life. How do I stop?Stopping any addiction is always a challenge. Changing our thought process is especially challenging. However, there is a process available, but it will work only when you really want to change. Cha

But I was faced with another dilemma. Even though I knew which herb was right for my problem, I didnt know how to use it. Was I to eat it raw? Was I to make a tea out of it? Was I to soak it in alcohol and use it as a tincture that way? Or were gelatin capsules of the dried powder the way to go?I tried each and every possibility and soon discovered that the hot tea was the best course to follow. In about a quart of boiling water I would put one good-sized handful of the cut fresh catnip {Contains acetic acid, biotin, buteric acid, choline, citral, folic acid and vitamin A as well as many B vitamins including B6 and 12 which are useful in dealing with lycanthropy and other obsessive hallucinatory events.} herb and let it simmer for a few minutes before setting it aside to steep a while. I would then pour myself a couple of cups of this brew while it was still quite warm and sip it down whenever the craving came over me for more of these addictive substances.I was amazed, quite frankly, at just how well this tea worked. My withdrawal symptoms were nowhere near what they used to be before. I sincerely believe that the good Virgin Mother used this common herb to help me overcome my addiction. I then entered the priesthood where Ive served with honor and distinction ever since. He concluded.I looked up at him from my note-taking and asked with a smile, I believe this is the first time Ive ever heard a priest confess to a commoner and non-Catholic. All three of us enjoyed a hearty laugh following this remark. (1)For people who do not know the extent of control exerted by the Catholic Church in Canada and especially Quebec I highly recommend looking into the Pauline Principle as detailed in the Catholic Encyclopedia before checking out arranged marriages and all the man ways they get money from companies and force people to act according to their materialistic designs. My father was with the Judge-Advocate General Corps after the cessation of hostilities in Europe and stayed for the Nuremberg Trial of Kurt Mayer. He told of many stories where men sending all their pay back to the wife in Quebec or other Eastern Provinces had found the church had taken the children away from the mother and were using these funds (Often augmented by Black Market efforts headed by the later Governor-General and including my father.). The church would say the woman was running around and in one case the man went AWOL and was up on charges because he tried to free his children and his wife who he had an understanding with about the so-called running around. Of course now we know, and the courts have shown the church was mightily involved in many other serious and immoral acts.Author and activist against the denial of soul that goes hand in glove with the promotion of corruption.

Addiction : An Addicts Tale of Recovery

For an addict, the thought of living the rest of their life without ever using drugs again is too overwhelming for them to fathom. We've been using for so long, hiding and running from ourselves and our fears. It usually isn't to an addict has hit rock bottom before they will admit that they have a problem. The thing about being an addict is that your always the last one to find out. Your family and friends have known this for years, but denial is just another weapon your disease uses to keep you sick. What does it take for a person to admit they have a problem, and just as important, what does it take for an addict to seek help? A month in the life of the drug war

As odd as this may seem, Americans overwhelmingly vote for policies that actually promote crime. For example ...The first notation I made was on October 31 when WTHR reported that two suspects were arrested for shooting an Anderson, Indiana police officer in the hand during an armed robbery of a drug store. The thieves stole tens of thousands of dollars in narcotics including hydrocodone and Oxycontin.Suspect Jack Lankford, who looked to be in his forties, admitted to being a drug addict since he was 15 or 16. That the police wanted to know if the two suspects were tied to a string of drug store heists suggests that they recognize a causal relationship between addiction, prohibition and crime that leaders of both major parties have not been willing to admit. On November 3, the Star reported that illegal drug exchanges between the elderly is both common and risky because such illegal drug users are "out of the loop" of doctor protection. Three days later, the Star carried an article about how between 1997 and 2000, doctors prescribed medications to adults that potentially caused 3,750 serious injuries, birth defects and deaths in children under 2 years old. Statistically, this makes drug companies and doctors hundreds of times more dangerous to children than,

10 Tenets of Effective Drug Addiction Treatment

Whether treatment is offered on an outpatient, inpatient or in a jail drugs are available to individuals in treatment. This puts individuals in treatment at risk for reusing even while in treatment. It also means that every individual in treatment should be monitored for drug treatment on an ongoing basis. In this manner treatment, plans may be modified to increase the chance of ultimate success.8. Alcoholics and addicts with mental health disorders should be treated for both at the same time.An alcoholic or addict who also has a mental health disorder is said to have co-occurring disorders. In the past, the question has sometimes been should the person be treated for the mental health problem or the addiction first. People may be using drugs to deal with the mental health problem or they may have the mental health issue because of their drug use. The most effective way to deal with these two co-occurring disorders and deal with the addiction is to treat them at the same time.9.Addiction Treatment works even for people who dont choose it of their own free will.It used to be believed that someone had to want to go into treatment before it could be effective. New research has shown that this is not the case. In fact, treatment is just as effective for individuals who are court ordered to do treatment as it is for people who figure out the need for it on their own. Families and employers can be just as effective at getting unwilling addicts into treatment. Stephen King, in his autobiography On Writing, tells about the intervention his wife and family performed on him. King did not want to go into treatment. He was seemingly happy doing coke and drinking mouthwash, but his wife Tabitha and his children were not happy with the situation and performed an intervention. Forced to choose between family and drugs, King made the right choice. Interventions are most successful when done correctly and with the help of a professional. For more information on interventions visit http://www.interventionresources.net10. Dont give up.As with other chronic illnesses, relapses can occur during or after successful treatment episodes. Addicted individuals may need lengthy treatment and more than one time in treatment before they can enjoy long-term abstinence and full restoration to a drug free life. The period after treatment is just as important as being in treatment. Finding support and continuous work to stay drug free will be necessary. A slip or relapse is just an indicator that more work, and possibly more treatment, is necessary. Don't give up.David Westbrook 2005David Westbrook is a freelance writer. 10 Tenets of Effective Drug Addiction Treatment

Medically supervised withdrawal is only one step in addiction treatment; alone it will do little.Frequently, it is necessary for addicts and alcoholics to go through a medically supervised withdrawal period before they can safely enter treatment. However, some people confuse this short 3 to 7 day period with treatment, which it is not. Some people cycle in and out of these withdrawal episodes convinced that they should be able to maintain abstinence afterwards, but never finding success. Seemingly tragic, this allows some addicts to continue in their addiction while giving the appearance that they are attempting to get healthy.3. Length of treatment counts. The appropriate duration for an individual depends on his or her problems and needs. Research indicates that for most patients, significant improvement is reached at about 3 months. The research suggests that this may be residential, outpatient or a combination of both depending on the individuals needs. After this initial period, additional treatment can produce further progress toward recovery.4. Drug addiction is a multidimensional problem, and treatment needs to address all of an individuals needs.Effective treatment must address the individual's drug use, but also any associated medical, psychological, social, vocational, or legal problems.5. Counseling (individual and/or group) is a critical part of effective addiction treatment. Many alcoholics and addicts mistakenly believe that if they could just stop using for a week or two they could stop

5 Ways to Tell if You Have an Addiction

Besides heredity, individuals who grow up in families with abuse, neglect and who are impoverished and undereducated are more likely to become addicts than those who do not.For most addicts, it can be extremely difficult to recognize that what they have associated as simply a habit is actually an addiction. While every individual and addiction is different there are some symptoms that are prevalent among most addicts and addictions.* Unable to meet responsibilities at home, school or office.* Continues to use substance or engage in behavior even when it is dangerous.* The need increases to engage in behavior or use more of the substance to achieve the same effect or feeling.* Has tried but failed to stop using the substance or end the behavior.* Continues to engage in the behavior or use the substance even when they know the dangers.Answering yes to three or more of the above symptoms during a twelve month period may indicate that you or a loved one has an addiction. The first step to treating an addiction is recognizing that it exists. There is no cure for addiction. Treatment and counseling can help an addict learn to control their behavior, withstand impulses and recognize the presence of a problem, but an addict is never cured. Treating an addiction can take years and requires ongoing support from friends, families and resource/support groups.A 12 step program can be particularly beneficial in treating an addiction. One of the most well known 12 step programs is AA, also known as Alcoholics Anonymous; however there are similar programs for all kinds of addictions.Living with an addiction requires a daily commitment and there is always the possibility of relapsing. An addict who has been sober for even twenty years, can succumb to temptation just as easily as they did decades before. There are a number of treatment programs and centers that can help with the numerous types of addictions that are prevalent today. Many of them are anonymous. Support groups are also available to assist family and friends who are dealing with effects of an addiction in a loved one.The information contained in this article is for educational purposes only and is not

5 Ways to Tell if You Have an Addiction

So, what is an addiction? How does it begin and when does a pattern of behavior become an addiction? Some individuals seem to have the ability to use a substance or engage in a behavior periodically over a period of years without becoming hooked. Others; however are not capable of stopped and become addicted.Addictions affect all social and educational groups. There is no typical addict. The causes of addiction have been studied for a number of years. In many ways, addiction is caused by the feeling that the substance or behavior brings about in the user. The body, and mind, becomes dependent on that feeling and seeks to maintain it.There are addiction risk factors that make some people more likely than others to become addicts. Studies indicate that in some cases addictions can be hereditary. The child of an alcoholic may not grow up to become an alcoholic, however; they become addicted to gambling or some other type of compulsive behavior as an adult. Besides heredity, individuals who grow up in families with abuse, neglect and who are impoverished and undereducated are more likely to become addicts than those who do not.For most addicts, it can be extremely difficult to recognize that what they have associated as simply a habit is actually an addiction. Smoking - The Myth of Addiction

I live in the UK and a great many of my customers holiday in US and Caribbean resorts - this entails 10 or 12-hour transatlantic non-smoking flights. I've never once had anyone who couldnt manage that flight without a cigarette, or who chooses holiday destinations based on flight length. Oh! Yes as soon as they get into a space where they're allowed to smoke they light up, but it isn't a problem during the flight because they've told their body it just isn't allowed so forget it. And their body forgets it for the duration of the flight.I've treated smokers who smoke 40 a day. Not one of them is woken from their 8 hour sleep by a body craving for nicotine. Yes they light up almost as soon as they get out of bed, but they weren't woken up by a need.Heroine addicts are driven by their pain to commit crimes like robbery in order to satisfy their craving. It's unheard for an otherwise law-abiding smoker to rob because they haven't got the cash right now for a packet of cigarettes. There is another aspect of clinical addiction that is conveniently ignored by those with a vested interested in smoking i.e. tobacco companies, and drug companies peddling drug-based solutions that require you to continue to purchase their product. This aspect is habituation. When you introduce a drug into a body and continue to put that drug i

What is the Addictions Recovery Measurement System?

Dig your heels into the elephants neck, and hold on to its forehead, kick right to go right and left to go left, and if the elephant stops to eat bananas, you must use the hammer on his head, because with his thick skin, nothing else will get his attention.Behavior medicine experts and health psychologists must take into account the biological, psychological, and socio-cultural influences when considering an individuals health. They have long emphasized the role that multidimensional life experiences (e.g. traumatic life events, the negative effects of stress on the immune, endocrine, gastrointestinal, and cardiovascular systems, unhealthy/ hazardous life-styles, and poor health choices in regards to adherence to preventive regiments, etc.), play in the occurrence, maintenance, and prevention of physical illness. In 1990, 50 percent of the mortality (over 1-million deaths annually) in the United States from the 10 leading causes of death was linked to addictive behaviors such as tobacco use, poor dietary habits and activity, alcohol misuse, illicit drug use, and risky sexual practices, (McGinnis and Foege, 1994).Some experts in the medical field are presently purporting that Americas number one health problem is no longer heart disease or cancer, but a deadly condition labeled Syndrome X. This condition is described as a combination of several metabolic problems such as being overweight, having high blood pressure, being insulin resistant, and/ or having abnormal cholesterol levels that are all related to a poor diet and a lack of exercise. The sum is greater than the parts in this syndrome. Each metabolic problem is a risk for other diseases separately, but together they multiply the chances of life-threatening illness such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and stroke, etc. They indicate that up to 25% of adults presently have Syndrome X, and the ranks are growing considering for example that 30.5% of our Nations adults suffer from morbid obesity, (100lbs., or more above ideal weight, or BMI = 30 >), and that two thirds or 66% of adults are overweight (BMI = 25>). Considering that the U.S. population is now over 290,000,000, some estimate that up to 73,000,000 Americans would benefit from some type of education awareness and/ or treatment for a behavioral addiction. This fact does not take into account the 25% addicted to nicotine, the 13.4 % (NIMH) with alcoholism, and the multiple millions of others who are addicted to mind-altering substances, and other behavioral addictive disorders such as pathological gambling, pornography, and extreme religious addictions, etc.To compound this healthcare crisis, the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) both continue to seek verification of quality healthcare, as healthcare disciplines typically have no common ruler that standardizes outcome measures. The outcome measurement research data in their comprehensive medical center inspections therefore, remain a primary focus. In many states, outcome evaluations are legislatively mandated with future appropriations tied to the demonstration of treatment program effectiveness. To add to the confusion, there are differences in the definition of outcome that relate to two paradigms:(1) Our present healthcare system is set up to focus on acute care rather than chronic illnesses. It focuses on a Unitary Syndrome model in which the sole marker of treatment response or success is specific symptom-reduction.(2) Healthcare consumers are increasingly advocating for a Multidimensional model that takes into account an array of life-functioning domains that influence patient treatment progress. Why Do We Need Our Addictions?

What would happen if we completely abolished all of our addictions, whether big or small, serious or not? Would we be forfeiting a part of our very fiber, the weave that keeps us together? Not only can the mind play tricks on itself and make it believe that it needs something, but it can also become lucid and understand that it can stand alone without the assistance of external stimuli to artificially boost its worth or security.Obviously, the latter is where we would all love to be, however, no one can break obsessive patterns unless they are understood, acknowledged, and then taken apart methodically. This must come from within the person!Analyzing your own behaviors from dusk to dawn and understanding that every action and decision has an end result of good or bad consequences, can prompt the ball to suddenly move forward. If denial skews logic even after acknowledging that negatives come out of specific actions, then additional introspection should be indicated or an external intervention employed. If you let your security and self worth derive from your past, then your past will always haunt you. However, if the past is treated like it should be, as a way of understanding ourselves better through lessons learned, then your future can be today and beyond without the crutches. Many of us carry around demons from the past and hold them as close to our hearts as anything else. They, in some way, fulfill what we think we are worth. The truth is, everyone is literally invaluable, there is no price that could ever be placed upon you. Living pure, clean, and free of addictions is extremely attainable, although, analyzing and understanding yourself first....is the only way it can be done.Strive to accomplish that daily, and you are on your way to a much more loving, happier, and content future then you could ever imagine.--by Brian Maloney-ValuePrep.com Want to improve your personal values? Why Drug Abuse is Rampant

Drug issues are immediately to be solved because it is an auxiliary in bringing out other pertinent and relevant cases such as murder and slaughter cases.Annual news about increasing number of addiction continues to inflate. How do we stop these cases? The public and the media have been very immune to hearing this inexorable problem and it appears to be not so very surprising at all. The larger it gets the larger chances of inviting associated tribulations not only in the community but for the whole.Drug prevention programs or anti-drug campaigns have been implemented and focused on but still, it is to no avail. Minor children who are in sheer addiction are subjected to isolation and rehabilitation. Why do these children involve to these problems at such a young age? The main reason for that matter is because they lack attention and guidance at home and the society. Treating children is a sensitive and crucial part. Every little change in the environment catches their attention and draws out to what they think is right. Peer pressure comes along with losing family ties that makes them feel unwanted in the community. Discrimination is also another factor that affects them emotionally. When they feel indifferent from the other youngsters especially those with a higher standard of living, they tend

10 Tenets of Effective Drug Addiction Treatment

Many alcoholics and addicts mistakenly believe that if they could just stop using for a week or two they could stop using forever. In reality, they need therapy. In therapy, addicts examine their motivation, build skills to resist drug use, replace drug-using activities with constructive and rewarding nondrug-using activities, and improve problem-solving abilities. Additionally, therapy helps individuals to rebuild and re-learn family and social living patterns.6. Medications are an important part of treatment for many people. Medications such as suboxone, methadone and LAAM can all

Adderall and Its Side-Effects

Adderall and Its Side-EffectsBy Douglas Cowan, Psy.D.Adderall is a stimulant medication used in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in both children and adults. It is made from a combination of four amphetamine compounds. Adderall is useful because it covers a broader range of ADHD symptoms than a single compound medication such as Ritalin, and because it is a "one a day" dosing. A child with attention deficit disorder usually has to take only one dose of adderall per day to get through school and get his homework done. Adderall is also often used

Common Symptoms of Prescription Drug AddictionBy Damian SofsianThere are many common signs that people addicted to prescription drugs often exhibit. Conservative Radio Host's Prescription Drug Addiction Story

He claimed that he checked himself into treatment centers on two previous occasions to try to quit using the pain pills.Though Limbaugh spoke out against drug use many times on his radio broadcast, he came clean about his own problems soon after the story broke in other news outlets. He made no excuses for his addiction and entered a treatment center for a third and final time.Rush Limbaugh has since returned to his radio show and claims that he is now drug free, but the ordeal lost him the respect of some of hi

Drug Addiction Treatment Centers: A Fresh Start

He would send the occasional card or make a call on her birthday the first couple of years, but that eventually ended. After college, Shelly decided to find her dad. It turned out that he had moved back and was living just a couple of miles from where she grew up. Somewhere along the way, he had picked up a heroin habit. Shelly tried to talk him into going to treatment, but he always had an excuse for why he couldnt. Shelly said she visited him weekly, helped him keep his apartment up, bought his groceries and kept after him to quit. She said she they had just talked the night before and that he had, for the first time, agreed to try treatment. On my end, I could hear the ambulance approaching and then a knock on the door. Shelly hung up and I never heard from her again.Today in America, there are 13 million people in need of alcohol or drug addiction treatment. Fortunately, according the government, there are just over 13,000 drug addiction treatment centers waiting to help these individuals. It may have been too late for Shellys dad, I dont know, but I do know that it is not too late for anyone who is looking for a drug addiction treatment center today. Each year millions of people across America, enter treatment centers. For many, this marks a fresh start, a rebirth. It is an opportunity to rebuild broken relationships and broken lives. Those who successfully complete rehab join a recovery community that is already milli
